Marin County is filled with plenty of lovely restaurants. Although cooking and education in the kitchen is a large part of our practice, we also love supporting our local restaurants. Here are a few we love!
BARRIO- San Rafael, CA
For some of the best, fresh, organic, GMO-free contemporary Mexican food visit Barrio at the Marin Farmer's Market at the San Rafael Civic Center. Their emphasis is on healthy handcrafted dishes that are deeply satisfying. Barrio supports local farmers and ranchers in a radius of 45 miles and they make their own tortillas.
CAFE LOTUS- Fairfax, CA
If you love Indian food, Cafe Lotus is the place to go. They have endless vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options, delicious food, and wonderful staff. They have two other locations on 4th Street in San Rafael, one has a buffet and the other focuses on dosas.
FARM BURGER- San Anselmo, CA
Sometimes you just want a burger, right? Farm Burger uses 100% grass fed beef for their burgers and never uses antibiotics or growth hormones. They also have other meat options for you burger as well as a quinoa burger for vegetarians and vegans. They have pre-designed burgers or you can choose from a wide array toppings to build your own.
BELCAMPO- Larkspur, CA
Another great option to get your burger fix. Belcampo uses sustainable practices to grow their own meat on their own farms. All of their meat is organic, grass fed, and free range making this the perfect place to satiate all you meaty needs.
THE PLANT- San Francisco, CA
Although they recently closed their Marin location, The Plant Organic Cafe still has multiple locations in the city, including at the airport. The use 100% organic, locally sourced ingredients and have everything from grain bowls to the famous plant burger made from lentils and beets. They have lots of vegan and gluten free options on their menu as well.
FISH- Sausalito, CA
Fish Restaurant is the perfect place for seafood lovers. They are dedicated to serving sustainable seafood through their deliciously diverse menu that features seafood of all types from fresh oysters to lobster rolls to clam chowder.
SCOOP- Fairfax, CA
The Fairfax Scoop is a local favorite. They have rotating flavors that always include on vegan flavor and one sorbet. This tiny hole in the wall serving organic ice cream has a huge following and will always have a line out the door. They make their own waffle cones right in front of you and better yet have extremely reasonable prices. Definitely worth the wait!
